About the Workshop

The CIgW Workshop Committee began as the work of an all-volunteer group of investigators initially working together with the Veterinary Immunological Committee (VIC) and the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) which expanded when it became obvious that investigators in the comparative immunology field had many shared interests and concerns. The IUIS acting through the VIC provides the main support for maintenance of the workshop. The goal of the CIgW Committee has been to reach agreement on a standard nomenclature for immunoglobulins (Igs), Fc-receptors, T cell receptors (TCRs) and their genes in species other than laboratory rodents or primates but that are especially of interest to comparative and evolutionary immunology. The CIgW Website is the medium for informing investigators about existing nomenclature, for providing links to relevant databases like GenBank, various genome projects, other workshops and to help identify sources of reagents. Reports of major development in the field appear as “News."

The work of the CIgW Committee began as the work of a nomenclature committee connected primarily to VIC, and meetings were held every three years in conjunction with the International Veterinary Immunology Symposium (IVIS). More recently the CIgW has also become associated with the Society of Developmental and Comparative Immunology (ISDCI). The current constituency of the CIgW Committee and the reports of their most recent meetings and meeting agendas can be found by clicking on “CIgW Committee .” Individuals wishing to volunteer for service on the committee and to attend workshops meetings at international meetings should contact the current Committee Chairman, Imre Kacskovics.  The CIgW Website is a quasi separate entity. Individuals wishing to make contributions to the CIgW Website should contact J.E. Butler, Erin McCandless or ccom-wgs@uiowa.edu.
